"Government of India" vs. GOOGLE
If you ever have visited some old monuments or temples in India, you will always find a sign board indicating that Photography is not permitted here. However, I always wondered what does this ban lead to? I mean, we can understand it can endager the security of the monument but how can you assure that the militants would take photographs by this regular cameras? If someone has decided to destroy some building than he/she will get the plan anyhow. They will use small cameras for that. They don't need to use big cameras for the photographs.
Anyhow, you can photograph "TAJ MAHAL", the most famous monument of India and you cannot photograph many other monuments due to reason of security. I wonder whether TAJ needs security or not, if we go with the photography ban logic. I want government to decide some standards and if they are in existence, why can't they mention them on the same notice board where the notice of banning of photography is shown? So if you are telling everyone, you cannot photograph here due to security, implement this rule strictly and with "TAJ MAHAL"also.
Now comes the real news: The government of India recently found that Google Inc, which is the best in search engine world has made new software Google Earth. And by using Google earth you can see most restricted areas of Indian cities as satellite images. These images are taken from 100- ft. Above approximately. But you can see the image of Indian parliament and president house very clearly. This software was released atleast 4 months ago. Microsoft has also released similar kind of software in USA. I believe there are many more American companies planning for same service. But after 4 months, Indian government is awaked now because its most secure buildings plan can be seen by anyone for free and easily. So they have protested against Google.
This type of protest is not new against Google. The British also raised the same concern against Google some time ago. People here are bashing against The American Company's Dare. I find this happening very interesting.
First, the Indian Government woke up late.
Second, most probably private American companies have better satellites than ISRO or atleast more number of satellites. (Google Inc, does not own any satellite).
Third, American companies do not show American white house or any other American buildings.
Fourth, now any private company executive can also see all secret activities being done by any country. May be American government can control their organizations watching their own secret missions or plants. But, other countries can do little.
Fifth, Google has a large number of Employees in India who are raise no question against these. This means they do not care about India. All children in India know that the parliament is under the category of no flying zone. But, they missed the point.
Sixth, The head of Google India was in USA when Indian government raised this point to Google executives who said that their head is sleeping in USA. So they will talk to him when he wakes up. Here again a point: Indian executives missed the point of our country's security first over their employer's salary. After then, they dismissed governments allegation for some time so their head can sleep. LOL. What a joke! Why can't all employee just see what they are doing. Can't they raise the simple question or just cut out those parts from Google earth?
Seventh, I wish I can own this kind of project, idea or organisation which can even stand up against any government. I will employ only Indians because I will be able to do what ever I want. I think we should promote our quality to multinational.
"Come here. Invest in India. Our people can forget that they are Indian for a while ..If you give them nice salary...They will support you.."
(This point was a sad joke, I think you can understand..)

"Third, american companies do not show american white house or any other american builings."
In what way, exactly?
In what way, exactly?
I think a bit of fact checking would be in order. The White House is clearly shown on Google Earth and Google Maps.
here is no Vs.
leading indian tech magazines are distributing google earth in this bandidth starved country and no one has asked them to restrain...

-ban on photography could also be because of copyright reason, there could be several reasons and it dont thing fear of terrorist attack is in that list (these bans have been there before we even knew the meaning of the word "terrorist")
-white house and other imp landmarks are clearly shown on Google Earth
-assuming american companies dont shown their imp lanmarks, why dont u develop such satellites and show those landmarks, if u can, accept it and live with it
-indian government didnot wake up late, diplomatic decisions can come late (agreed, they came a bit too in this case)
-how do u corelate the two topics of photography ban and google earth ? (or are they just two different topics ?)

Well patric, hardyboy you both are right .White house is shown. but its not unusual. Here showing the plan or top view of indian parliament is a prohibited act or atleast thats what government is saying right now. Its under no flying zone category.and you can see clear top view of parliament like three different big rooms can be seen. well actually, i personally do not see it as a big threat. but what i am trying to say is indian government thinks the pictures of indian parliament should be removed. and if they think so than why did they oppose this act so late? and google employee did nothing for it. they even do not listen to their government and was even dare to say that our boss is sleeping in USA, contact us tomorrow. I have raised that issue also.
hardyboy, this is a single column. if you read properly, you will be able to understand that i raised a question on ban on photography.GOI ban photography on some monuments for security reasons. But what about TAJ MAHAL or SARDAR SAROVAR DAM? We can photograph it. and they wont be able to control small digital cameras which are available cheap in market and accessible for all. In AKSHARDHAM temple, which was attacked by terrorists, now they ban camera phones. but before that? i oppose such ban but if government believes that ban is needed it shold be implemented properly may be this ban can be related to religious reasons at some place.
hardyboy, i do not understand copyright issue in photography ban. no monument available for public can be copyrighted, as far as i know. if you know any example , share it here.
and i do not believe in diplomatic reason you gave. What kind of diplomacy is it with a small comany and indian government?? Just kick this company little and they have to obey our rules if they want to trade in our country. this is not a government. IF INDIAN GOVERNMENT BELIEVES THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE FOR THEM, I DO NOT SEE THERE SHOULD BE ANY SECOND BEING WASTED. Mind it, Google and MSN both are very obidient with chinese government.
My point is not whether i like Google earth or not, but if Indian government did not like , it should have kicked Google very hard on this issue very earlier. India does not need google but google needs india to trade. Still do not belive, look at china. All compnies are obidient with chinese government. Like MSN are not showing chinese people what their goverment does not want them to see.
Well, I have pointed out that only, that if you own some satellite, you can do whatever you want.see last paragraph once again. but in current case also, if some other company owns a satellite and if they show our photo publicly which we do not want to let them show publicly, we can kick them. Because indian government has more powers than Google. so forget the point here," LIVE WITH IT", i think that is a bad mentality of yours. Indian goverment is strong enough to say a damn small comany to stop this service immediately even if it has more satellites.
" So you have a binoculor huhh? and u think u have right to see in my bedroom ? than forget that dream! i will break your car if you dont put your binoculor in different direction.." common, you can say this to your neighbour if you have enough dare or power! and indian government has this powers.
Many other governments are also pointing out this issue also.
